Ramon Matawaran, MD, is a board certified physician with 30 years of clinical experience in the practice of general internal medicine in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from College of William and Mary in Williamsburg where he was inducted into Beta Beta Beta honor society in 1982. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1985 from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and completed his residency training from EVMS in Norfolk in 1988 and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at Sentara General Hospital from 1988-1989 and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society during that period. He subsequently completed a certificate program in Biomedical Informatics from Oregon Health Sciences University along with a certificate program in Genomics/Genetics from Standford University.
Dr. Matawaran treats adults across the spectrum of health from routine wellness visits to complex illness. He is well trained in the diagnosis of puzzling medical problems and ongoing care of chronic illness such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD, atherosclerotic vascular disease, and caring for patients with more than one disease. He is also interested in health promotion and disease promotion as well as the use of genomic data to inform diagnosis and clinical management strategy.
He is a member of the American Medical Associations (AMA), Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC), and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He has also served as clinical faculty at both EVMS and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
